We as citizens of the world have the ability to overcome obstacles thrown in our directions. People have the freedom of choice. We choose the people we want in our lives, the religions we wish to practice, and the direction in which we choose to head in life. I made a choice to go to college and enhance my education. I also made a choice to change my spiritual practice from Christianity the most influential religion in the world to Nichiren Buddhism. Fear was what held me back for a long time. Going against what majority of the world practiced was a huge step for me to head in a more enlightened lifestyle. We have the freedom to embrace fear or try to escape from it. When i realized that i have the freedom of expression i then expressed that i no longer believed in the tradition of what my family always practiced. I have the freedom of change, to change ones own lifestyle at any moment. Meeting other people that share in your beliefs and realize those freedoms is exceptional. These images show a community of people who share freedoms together. Roosevelt Island is a community of people from all over the world that come together and live freely. The group of practicers is a community of youth and unity. Using only Natural light and a wide shot i was able to capture the pillars entire essence. Using the same techniques i was able to capture all the people in one wide shot during an uplifting meeting.

The film i choose to watch was the 1980sThe Shinning. The main character Jack Nicholson who is playing a recovering alcoholic who gets a job looking over a hotel for the winter. He has a son with the power to see dead people and a entity that lives inside him. The hotel had a family living there before and the father killed his children wife and himself.During a snow storm the family is trapped in and the father starts to lose his mind and goes on a rampage trying to kill his family.
There was so many different camera angles in this movie and it was very suspenseful. They used a special camera to capture the scene when the little boy rides his bike around the hotel so that the camera is balanced and not shaking. They use wide shots to capture the entire room in the hotel and the shoots of the outside maze. When Jack Nicholson chopped the door down as his wife screamed for her life the used a close up to catch his (here’s Johnny) scene. I liked the movie because its iconic and its like a classic horror film. Being that its an older movie i like the quality of it, I watched as if i was in the 1980s. It was really long scenes but they were each important and very close up. Doing close ups shows all of the emotion so its always helpful. I think some of the scenes could have been shorter. The things I want to do is use close ups and zooms. I really liked the movie because I always saw it in commercials and other movies. I like Jack Nicholson since he was the joker in the Batman Movie so this was a treat.
The place I will be shooting is the old side of the dorms the old AV. It’s a very interesting area because it’s under construction and makes it look intimidating. I want to show that even through darkness and not knowing what’s to come next great things can come from it. Without darkness you wont be able to see the light. The hallways are dim and give the illusion of a maze. I plan to convey the audience the feeling of the unknown how it can be good feelings and how it can be uneasy. I want to convey the mood of surreal and a little sterile. I think this part of the campus is perfect for that.
